2023 China Aluminum Foil Industry Supply and Demand Analysis and Development Prospects Research Report

In China's aluminum processing industry, the aluminum foil industry continues to develop at a high speed, and the industry as a whole has entered a stage of parallel development with advanced countries. It has large production capacity, complete varieties, optimal processes, and obvious cost advantages, particularly in the steady growth of aluminum foil production and domestic consumption, global leading technology and equipment, and strong product competitiveness. With the rapid development of China's economy and aluminum processing industry, packaging aluminum foil has become one of the most important consumption growth points in the aluminum foil market.
Aluminum foil is a type of aluminum rolling material. Aluminum foil is mainly designed for thickness, and aluminum products with a thickness less than 0.2mm are usually referred to as aluminum foil in the industry. The edges are usually longitudinally cut and delivered in rolls. Aluminum foil is a soft metal film that not only has the advantages of moisture resistance, airtightness, shading, wear resistance, fragrance retention, non-toxic and odorless properties, but also has an elegant silver white luster, making it easy to process beautiful patterns and patterns of various colors.
According to thickness, aluminum foil can be divided into double zero foil, single zero foil, and thick foil. Generally speaking, double zero foil is mainly used for food packaging, cigarette packaging, electronic optical foil, etc; Single zero foil is used for some food packaging, drug packaging, electronic circuit signal shielding, air conditioning foil, etc; Thick foil is mainly used for air conditioning foil, container foil, building decoration, and industrial purposes.
Aluminum foil has a wide range of downstream applications, mainly used in industries such as green packaging, household appliances, electronic communication, transportation, printing, chemical engineering, building materials, decoration, etc. According to the statistics of the China Nonferrous Metal Processing Industry Association, packaging and container foils account for the largest proportion, accounting for 52% of all aluminum foils, followed by air conditioning foils, accounting for 22%.
The aluminum foil processing process is the aluminum product with the most processing steps, the smallest thickness, and the greatest difficulty in the aluminum processing industry. There are currently two commonly used processing routes in the industry: (1) ingot hot rolling method; (2) Double roll casting and rolling method.
In 2021, the comprehensive production of aluminum processing materials in China reached 44.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. Since 2019, the growth rate of aluminum production has rebounded from the bottom. With the global economic recovery after the epidemic and the obstruction of overseas production, China's aluminum production has significantly warmed up, with a year-on-year growth of 5.0% in 2020 and 6.2% in 2021. The aluminum production is synchronized with the business cycle.
According to the "2023-2028 China Aluminum Foil Industry Supply and Demand Analysis and Development Prospects Research Report" by China Research Institute of Industry
The annual composite growth rate of aluminum foil since 2012 has reached 6.8%, far higher than the industry average growth rate; Battery aluminum foil is a subdivision of foil products with explosive demand growth. In 2021, China's aluminum foil production totaled 4.55 million tons, compared to only 2.52 million tons in 2012, with an average compound annual growth rate of 6.8%, far higher than the average growth rate of the aluminum rolling industry. Battery aluminum foil accounts for a relatively small proportion of the overall aluminum foil production, only about 3%. However, in 2021, the production was 140000 tons, and in 2020, it was only 70000 tons, with a year-on-year growth of 100%. It is a subdivision of the foil product with explosive demand growth.
The aluminum rolling industry belongs to the traditional manufacturing industry, and its downstream demand is widely distributed in industries such as construction, home appliances, automobiles, daily consumption, electronics, and electricity. After the COVID-19 at the beginning of 2020, the global economy recovered rapidly, but at the same time, foreign manufacturing production did not fully recover. In 2021, China's export led the economy significantly. This has brought about an upward trend in the prosperity of the aluminum rolling plate in the past two years, which has continued to this day.
