China has become one of the countries with the fastest reduction in global energy intensity! Comprehensive energy consumption per unit of electrolytic aluminum decreased by 0.4%

The Blue Book of China's Low Carbon Economic Development Report (2022-2023) released on April 15th (hereinafter referred to as the "Blue Book of Low Carbon Economy") shows that in 2022, the energy consumption per 10000 yuan of gross domestic product (GDP) in China decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous year, and the carbon dioxide emissions per 10000 yuan of GDP decreased by 0.8%. Energy conservation, consumption reduction, and emission reduction are steadily advancing. Since 2012, China has supported an annual economic growth rate of 6.6% with an average annual energy consumption growth rate of 3%, resulting in a 26.4% decrease in energy consumption per unit of GDP, making it one of the countries with the fastest reduction in energy intensity globally.

The Blue Book of Low Carbon Economy points out that for a long time, China's carbon dioxide emissions have maintained a synchronous trend with economic growth, indicating that China's economic growth is mainly driven by extensive resource consumption and has not achieved decoupling from carbon emissions. In the past decade of the new era, China's low-carbon economic development has achieved remarkable achievements, with a cumulative decrease of 26.2% in energy consumption intensity, which is equivalent to reducing the use of 1.4 billion tons of standard coal and emitting 2.94 billion tons of carbon dioxide. The decrease in carbon dioxide emission intensity per unit of GDP has exceeded the goal of independent contribution. In 2022, the energy consumption per unit of China's gross domestic product decreased by 13.5% compared to 2020; The carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP have decreased by 18% compared to 2020; The proportion of non fossil energy consumption reaches around 20%; The forest stock reached 18 billion cubic meters, laying a solid foundation for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

The "Blue Book of Low Carbon Economy" points out that China has established the world's largest clean power generation system, with installed capacity of wind, light, water, and biomass power firmly ranking first in the world. China's energy utilization efficiency has significantly improved. In 2022, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of calcium carbide for national key energy consuming industrial enterprises decreased by 1.6%, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of synthetic ammonia decreased by 0.8%, the comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel increased by 1.7%, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of electrolytic aluminum decreased by 0.4%, and the standard coal consumption per kilowatt hour of thermal power generation decreased by 0.2%.

The Low Carbon Economy Blue Book was jointly compiled by the China Petroleum Enterprises Association, the "the Belt and Road" Energy Trade and Development Research Center of the University of International Business and Economics, and the China International Low Carbon Economy Research Institute of the University of International Business and Economics.
